Heff76 Hi all! I just stumbled over this board while doing some 'net research and hope that someone may be able to help, as I'm getting a bit frustrated. I've read through all the threads around here (found some great info, too, btw), but didn't see what I needed. I'm writing a novel (historical romance *you may roll your eyes now, lol*) that takes place during the Norman Conquest of England and would like to be as accurate as possible.
I'm wondering if anyone knows the basic dimensions of a Motte & Bailey Castle...specifically, how large was the wooden keep? Outbuildings? I've found numerous sites that show what's left of the Motte and have diagrams of what the original M&B Castle would possibly have looked like, but no "numbers", so to speak, on how big the places were.
