kimberley Hi my name is Kimberley. My family owned a castle I believe back in the 1700's called Biggar castle I was told it is in the the city of Biggar in the region of Strathclyde. I would like to get some information on this castle and to know if it is still around.

John Ball Biggar Castle was a 13th century castle of the Flemings. In 1297 William Wallace won a battle against the English at Biggar.
wurdsmiff My website will give you the exact location of Biggar castle. Biggar is in fact a small town which retains it's mediaeval plan. Little remains but a large motte which stands in the garden of the local manse. The Flemings in fact moved to a new site at Boghall in the 14th century, location also available on my page (see profile). There are more substantial remains on this site.
wurdsmiff Kimberly, thank you for posting the picture, and response is in mail. I can now confirm that the Castle was Woolmet House, near Danderhall outside Edinburgh. Have sent some details on this, though you can learn more by getting a hold of a copy of 'The Castles of Scotland' 2nd edition, by Martin Coventry, published by Goblinshead in 1997, (You might notice my name in it somewhere). You can get lots of data on Scottish castles at the Goblinshead website at http://www.scotland2000.com/weeguides/index.htm
