caljrDoes anyone have any knowledge of a castle called "lowenclau" ( lion's claw ) which
evidently was constructed in the old prussian city of NeueStadt. Based on G-grandmother info NeueStadt was not far from
Gdansk (appx. 20 km). But I have since learned that there is also a Neuestadt now
called Prudnik (Silesia) , Poland, much closer to Krakow than Gdansk.
Evidently this castle is where the Prussian
Army Leutenants held war strategy meetings.
It is also in the same city where there was once a large abbey or monastary.

My g-grandmother was born in the castle and
g-g grandmother was governess to the Lt. that had resided there.

any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Petercaljr.
working on your site after de Merle.
Already had a quick look, but nothing as yet.
I know we have members in that area of Europe. So someone (if not me) should come up with something.
GordonI've tried about half a dozen dedicated Polish castle web sites, and have found no mention of this place, I've also tried a general web search and come up with nothing.
This does not necessarily mean that it does not exist, it just means I haven't found it.
I hope someone else is more succesful.
caljrThanks to all. I have learned that Neuestadt, West Prussia, is now called Wejherowo, Poland, about 20 miles north west of Gdansk. The castle is called ZAMEK, which also is polish for castle.

h/ever I am wondering if it is truly is a castle or a simply large mansion with estate. As a baron /baroness had resided there. My g-grandmother was the governess and"lady-in-waiting". My g-grandfather was an officer in the Prussian army. Surname was Von Kostoch.

Any help you can give indicating whether or not this castle ( or mansion) still stands and where it stands would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your kind cooperation.
