> I was trying to find out any information regarding a castle in
England. I
am from the Bolton family and my cousin received an email from
someone in
England saying that he had located a castle that belongs to the Bolton
family. I fear that this is just a scam. The man mentioned that the castle has been vaccant for over 200 yrs and needs to be repaired. The letter states that if she is interested in claiming the castle, and paying
the back taxes, that she should email him and he would start with the "arrangements".
Does anyone know anything about such a castle, and is this standard proceedure
when finding a heir?
I personally feel that this is just a scam, since she has just
recently
been doing some family tree research, but have been trying to check
to see if I could find anything on the internet. I would think that a lawyer
or some official would have been the one to get in contact with her.So far your
wonderful site has been the only plus I have found, although not related to
my problem. Please feel free to email me with any information or suggestions that you may have .

Thank you,
Mary Vivian

PeterHi Mary,
Bolton, is not an uncommon name, as there is the fairly large town of the same name.
Thre are also several 'houses' with the name Bolton in them.
Bolton Castle lies in Wensleydale, Yorkshire.
And a very famous tourist attraction. The castle is actually owned by, Harry Orde-Powlett, son of the seventh baron.
It all appears on many castle sites if you wish to look it up.
Yes, someone is winding you up.
Sorry ....... Peter
