Melville Castle was built 1786 by James Playfair for Henry Dundas, Viscount Melville, who had demolished its historic predecessor which stood on the same site. This information came from rcahms.gov.uk You may have struggled to find it because Scotland's capital city is spelt: Also, there is a Melville House nearby (Monimail in Fife). ------------------Melvin In 1981 I stayed at The Melville Castle just
outside Edinbourough. It's a grand property,
not a guest house or B&B, but a bona fide
castle. I can't seem to find it anywhere in
guide books or on the web. Does anyone have
info? Did the name of the castle change?
