wurdsmiff Go to my web site for exact location of Blackwood House, it stands on the site of much older houses which were probably fortified. Weir of Blackwood was chief of the name, in the 17th C at least. They held much of South Lanarkshire at one time or another, though not all at once, the lands changing hands on numerous occasions. They held many other castles in the area, notably Stonebyres, now demolished. They were descended from a Norman immigrant known as de Vere.
