Mel PetersonLooking for information about any/all Scottish castles connected to the Guthrie
clan past and present.
thanks, Mel

wurdsmiffThe Guthries owned the following castles at one time or another.
Balgavies Castle (little remains), Colliston Castle(Privately owned and occupied by another family), Dysart(nothing remains), Gagie House(as Colliston), Guthrie Castle(as Colliston, though was still owned by descendants of the family in the 20th century), Kirkbuddo(nothing remains), and Red Castle( In Angus, Little remains).
To describe each and it's history would take considerable time, and a very long entry here. However further details on each can be found in 'The Castles of Scotland' 2nd edition, by Martin Coventry, Goblinshead 1997. for those still standing, details can be found in the various volumes of 'The Fortified House in Scotland' by Nigel Tranter.

JaysonCastles also in the Guthrie heritage is
Torosay Castle, Isle of Mull
Gagie House
Guthrie Castle(privately owned) Forfar, Scotland
GordonWell Jayson, if you read my mail above (I once was wurdsmiff), you will find two of the castles you mentioned are there. Torosay is not, since it's not a castle, but a castellated mansion. It is a Victorian, Scots Baronial mansion, built for John Campbell of Possel in 1858 to replace Achnacroish House, and sold to Arbuthnot Charles Guthrie in 1865. The family still own it.
