Tritoph Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to buy Pembroke Castle? Plus how much it would cost to restore it? Estimates? Also if you have any information about Pembroke Castle, please tell me. Thanks.

Philip Davis Pembroke castle is privately owned by a private trust set up, in 1959, by Mrs Basil Ramsden, who's father brought the castle as recently as 1928. It is, therefore, possible, if, in my opinion, somewhat unlikely, that the castle could be sold. I have no idea at what price but would assume a seven figure sum.
However, the castle is an ancient monument, is entirely open to the public, is regularly used by schools, is the birth place of Henry Tudor and is one of the best preserved castles in Britain. Therefore the possibility that restoration other than that needed to preserve the fabric of the building would be allow is nil.
There are a considerable number of castles in Britain which could be purchased and restored as dwellings. Harewood Castle in Yorkshire, a 14th tower house springs to mind as a building where this could be done providing the restoration was careful. I'm not sure if this building is for sale, but the owners are under pressure to do something about it. The cost to restore it would probably be about 10 million pounds sterling.
