RedPlease help! Searching for the name of a
castle that has a carving of 5 dragons that
are chained together that stand for piracy,
murder, theft, treason, rape. Mentioned
briefly on either the Discovery Channel or
The Learning Channel around Halloween when
they were doing a special on Haunted Castles
of England/Scottland/Ireland.
angelsweetiekrisieI have done a lot of research on castles over the past year, and I have seen almost every castle either in a book, slide, or online! I have never seen a castle that has designs on it like an animal or dragons or anything! Please be more specific! Thank you!
PeterHi Red,
I'm afraid TV channels don't always play by the book. It may a valid thing you have seen, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Don't forget many 'castles' have been built in Victorian times. And although they look genuine, are most certainlt not.
I visited Penrhyn Castle here in North Wales for the first time this year. It is brilliant (my grandaughter and I thought it would be great for the Harry Potter books). I can't recall, but the staircase alone took somelike 10\12\13 years whatever to carve.
There are dragons & monsters all over the place.
But the castle isn't even a couple of hundred years old yet.
Having said that .. it is built over the core of a very ancient Welsh manor house. The cellers of which are still visible today.
