chris wiebe hello, i am new and in need of help. my name in chris, i live in canada and was visiting the uk about 2 months ago. my visit was incredible and i have always been interested in medievel history. i was wondering if any one knew which castle is the family castle of robert the bruce?

Gordon The Bruce family, specifically the branch from which King Robert hailed, held many castles. They were a powerful family, Robert himself inheriting the Earldom of Carrick from his mother. This gave him control over huge territories in both south west Scotland, and in the north east due to his first marriage to Isabel of Mar.
Amongst the best known are Lochmaben (though this refers to the huge motte and bailey castle in the village, and not the stone castle at Castle Loch),Annan, and Turnberry, whose scant ruins give the name to a hole on one of our British Open class golf courses
(Turnberry Course, Bruce's Casle). Loch Doon was also a Bruce Castle.
Of course once crowned, he also had control of the Royal Castles of Scotland, though as part of his defensive policies against English invasion, he dismantled any castle which could subsequently be held against the Scots. There were the occasional exceptions, at Berwick, and Dunbarton, and at Tarbet on the Mull of Kintyre, he actually engaged in a construction project.
