Monty_Python I was wondering what the name of the castles are that are featured in Monty Python and The Holy Grail? If you know please tell me.
Also, I want to know, in your opinion, what some of the best looking castles are? Thanx

I have restricted myself to the best of the ones I have actually visited. The 'best' in this case means the ones which look most impressive from outside, having the most complete structure which embodies the essence of a real castle of the 13th-15th c.
There are many castles I would consider more interesting, but these are often quite ruined.
I have also left out town defences as you asked for castles, but there are a few quite complete town defences around which look very impressive.

Gordon Really a question here for the In the Movies forum, but the most renowned of the Holy Grail castles is Doune, near Callander in Scotland. The others were Castle Stalker and Arnhall Castle. Other than London, all the locations for the film were in Scotland, either the guys couldn't afford airfares, or more likely they liked our scenery.

As for best looking castles, well that comes down to preference.
My own are for the atmosphere and backdrop of Dumbarton, the red sandstone of Bothwell,
Bedlay because it was the nearest to home when I was young, and Provanhall for it's intimacy. But for sheer complexity and scale, the fortifications of Malta will always be in there somewhere......and to see them is always a good excuse for a holiday.
Strangely enough I was expecting a question on this one sooner or later!
