Thank you. Anyway, enough of my scepticism. I have not seen the documentary, so can't tell you the name of the place. Sorry. ErikTeqlady Several years ago I saw a documentary about Haunted Castles. One of the Castles that was featured was a castle where the owners kept building and building, eventually the owners said that the castle just built itself.. most stairways had odd numbered stairs usually 7 or 11, alot of the stairways led to nothing but a wall. Does anyone know of this castle and if so what is the name of it and where is it located. Erik Schmidt You give the impression that the owners of this castle were actually on the documentary, or at least it is a recently built 'castle'. Am I right?
If the story is of relatively recent events, then we are not talking about a castle, as real castles stopped being built in the late 15th century, but if it is an old story from a real castle, then it sounds like just that, a good story with no foundation.
I have visited many castles, and it is not unusual to come across stairs going to a wall and the like, due to alterations carried out over centuries. As for odd numbered stairs, I didn't think that was anything unusual, our back stairs have 13 steps. Teqlady the people that lived in this castle were not original owners.. The castle was built before the 1900's so I guess yes it would be a new castle kinda.....To the best of my memory, the castle is currently a B&B and I can remember that the same program also featured the Winchester Castle.... The Documentary was called "Haunted Castles" and I believe was on the Discovery Channel(USA). I am sure it is probably just a "good tale" but wanted to check it out just the same... Thanks for your help. rhewi I think you watched the American Castles Documentary. The one you are thinking of maybe Winchester Castle on the west coast of California. But maybe I'm wrong.
