TrukrI am trying to help a friend here in the United States find a castle that was to be handed down to him. It is in Houghton Le Spring. any ideas would be sincerely appreciated
castleukHi Trukr
Houghton le Spring is south-west of Sunderland on the A690 road to Durham.
The rectory had a tower built without licence in 1483, a pardon was granted by Bishop Dudley. The tower has now vanished, site unknown.

AJRA little about Houghton le Spring history can be found towards the bottom of the page at
http://www.thenortheast.fsnet.co.uk/Chester-le-StreetandWashington.htm

Unfortunately it doesn't mention the tower or castle.

Pictures of various buildings in the town can be found at
http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/Public/Editable/Themes/Local-Heritage/listedbuildings/Details/Ho_Wash/houghto.htm

Again - no tower or castle, but it gives you an idea of the area.
