I making my own website about castles, and I have a few questions-why were castles built? And how did they establish towns? How could they be attacked? If you know an answer to any of the questions, please reply now!! I really need your help!!! Erik Schmidt That question has been asked many times before, so if you go through some of the old posts in the 'School projects' and 'General Discussion' forums you should find some info pretty quick.
Better yet, use the search function at the top right of the page to search for your topic.Troy H vernessy I am a bit new to castles, but castles I do belive where mainly a fortrees used to house important people, as in Kings Queens, Earls, Dukes, And some rich. Other than the important people they also held troops of soldiers. A castle normaly was built on Roads, Trails, Waterways where the opposing force may make there way. And a war was fought. As for what the reason for the wars each country had, it was different reasons for differnt times. Also as for all the bad things that you may have heard that happened in castles like the doungeons read not all castels had them. But in between wars a Castle may have also been what we call the towns main Court House and Jail. And to answer your Question about how the towns developed around the Castle. Castle's where not built in a week but more like years. So off the Castle grounds but close by Masons and Woodworkers, And just plain workers made residence. Many Castle towns started by just huts made into a hill bank, or mud and rock with tree branch tops. After the Castle was done then there was time for the workers who stayed to build a better home for there family. The workers who stayed eather did not have enough money to move again, or stayed with the Castle for Castle's are all-ways needing work to be done or got added on to.
