katharina It is very important for me to find a photo of the castle Rottenstein. The castle is situated near the town Meran (Merano) in the province South Tirol on the north of Italy. The castle was in the 19th centery a property of the Archduke Karl Ludwig, the Emperor Francis Joseph's brother. In autumn 1871 the famous Austrian Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) stayed in this castle. Later it was a property of the Archduke Ferdinand Karl (who changed his name into Ferdinand Burg). I have looked all over the Internet, but there isn't any photoes of this castle. I think it could be in some book related with South Tirol castles or could be in historical books, possibly biographies of the above mentioned people. I would be very grateful for any help. Thank you.
Marko During a search the website of a castle Trauttmansdorff came up. Maybe this could be your castle because this is what was mentioned on the website:
"The castle itself overlooks the middle of the gardens. Originally a gothic ruin, it was reconstructed by Count Trauttmansdorff and housed Empress Elisabeth twice during her winter cures in Merano."

katharina Thank you Marko for the tips. No, the castle Trauttmansdorf is a different castle, on the link to the Italian web site ( http://www.tangram.it/merano/icastelli.php?url=c-06) it is named "Castel di Nova". The Empress visited Meran many times and stayed in diffirent accomodations; only in 1873 she stayed in the Rottenstein castle, other times it was the castle Trautmannsdorf and other places. Still, thanks.
