katharina Halloo,

I am searching an information about history of the following castle: castle Lichtenberg in the alpine town Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, Salzburger Land, Austria. The 13th centery castle belonged earlier to the archbishops of Salzburg, and it is a private property since 1872. I would like to know, who owned this castle after 1872.

it is difficult to find out information about the castle. but free interpretating of http://rotary.multikom.at/fotos.html suggests that present owner is Dr. Johann Ortner

MarkoHi,

I found the following info in one of my books:
The castle was first mentioned in a document dating back to 1287. Since the 13th century it was the seat of the Archbishops. In 1803 the secularization took place. And in 1872 the castle became property of the Weiss von Tessbach vom Ärar family. It is now owned by the families Ortner and Weiss-Tessbach.
Hope this helps.
