BodiakI have read that a famous castle maker named Bodian created some to Englands finest castles. I have tried to find more info on this to no success. I have found a Bodiam Castle, but I believe that the diffent spelling refers to area it is located rather than the builders name. Can you help, I am trying to find pictures and more info on Bodian the builder of castles, and the castles he built. Secondarily I would like to know the Castle that King Edward the 3rd lived in, can you help?
MariaEdward III seems to have lived in Windsor Castle (the royal castle). As to Bodian, the builder, could you give some more information? Like, where did you read about him? In what period did he live?

ipfloWell Edward III has lived in Windsor Castle, but also in many other castles. The royal court in those days did not have a main place for the court to stay (it was not until the 16th century that there came a real 'main' palace for the British monarchy: Whitehall Palace, and later st James Palace and Buckingham palace), they travelled from castle to castle and stayed in its place as long as the resources it permitted.

Peterin John Harvey's ... English Medieval Architects, down to 1550 ... there is no Bodian listed, or any name like it. Although there may have been a man with that name after that date. But then strictly speaking it would not really be a castle by the critera that we apply in the U.K.
But will check the name out elsewhere.
cheers Peter
PeterRe; Edward III,
Edward did in fact spend a sum of £50,000 on Windsor Castle around the middle of the 14th century.
But he is noted for the building of the brand new castle at Queenborough, 1361-77, which was round. And seen by many as a forerunner of the later forts of Henry VIII.
Sad to say there is now only the outline of this castle left on the ground.
Peter
