The only Coningsby castle I've heard of is in Lincolnshire, but no longer remains.Peter Just picked up a bunch of old postcards with some interesting views etc of castles.
One of these is marked as;
Conningsby Castle, Hereford.
Yes, a complete blank castle whise. It does look more like a ruined maor house, and could be mistaken for a castle. Can find no sign of it on the web.
It is post-marked 'Hereford', 1905.
Certain 'Conningsby' street names are associated with Leominster. And there is also a web-site for RAF Conningsby. But I can't find that on my maps or www. streetmap on the web.
Did this old manor exist at this RAF base?
Any more clues out there?
Cheers ... PeterMalc_Chr No idea, but Might it have someting to de with Coningsby Hospital, built in 1614. The inmates used to wear remarkable red uniforms, designed by Sir Thomas Coningsby, its founder. Peter Many thanx for the info.
Red uniforms!
Just sent the info to a friend down that way. So will just wait and see.
Peter
