Ron [This message has been edited by Queuxgropius (edited 05-12-2009).] ------------------ ------------------ [This message has been edited by Queuxgropius (edited 08-10-2009).]RonFree Hi: I'm looking for information on a Connelly or Connolly Castle near Castletown, Ireland. I have what was claimed to be a picture of it, but I cannot find it in any listings. This is a link to my ancestors and we will be visiting there this summer. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks! Queuxgropius This would'nt be be Castletown House, by any chance? It was built by William Connolly, Speaker of the Irish House of Commons in 1715.

I have a picture which was claimed to be Connolly Castle "near Castletown". My mother was a Conley and her family had been in the United States for at least three generations. I'm now 69 and doing some research and my daughter is going to Ireland in July. The picture depicts a Castle fairly well in ruins except one round tower with tourists visiting it. Maybe it is all incorrect?? Thanks for your help. Ron Queuxgropius Yes,this is a mystery. There is'nt a town in that part of Ireland called Castletown, oddly enough, apart from a suburb of Navan in Meath.I will continue to look. If I saw the picture it might help. RonFree
Thanks Queuxgropius! I am trying to attach the picture I have of the supposed Connolly Castle. Not sure if this will work........
[img]C:\Documents and Settings\Ron\My Documents\My Pictures\File0001.jpg[img]Queuxgropius Apologies for my tardiness. I have been unable to find anything more. I have one more old gazetteer somewhere, and when I find it amid the clutter I will check in it too. Sorry, I was unable to open that link. RonFree Hi: My daughter just returned from Ireland and she visited the Connolley Castle or house. Here is a link to it: http://www.castletownhouse.ie/
It is relatively "new" compared to the really old Castles. Very interesting site and history. My Mothers side of the family are decendents.Queuxgropius That's great, glad to hear you had a good visit....but the identity of the castle with the tower still remains a mystery.
Perhaps you should try putting the picture you mentioned above in the Castle Photo Archive and we might have a stab at identifying it?
