Most of these books/models are best suited to children aged between seven (who might need help) and thirteen. Also, these models would make good templates for those wanting to create something more ambitious in other materials. Make This Model Castle (Usborne Cut-Out Models) by Iain Ashman ISBN: 0860205789 (my boys particularly like this one) Make This Model Medieval Castle by Iain Ashman ISBN: 0746032927 (my boys particularly like this one too) Make This Model Crusader Castle (Cut-Out Models Series) by Iain Ashman ISBN: 0746024355 Cut and Assemble a Crusader Castle in Full Color: The Krak Des Chevaliers in Syria by A. G. Smith ISBN: 0486275337 Easy-To-Make Village by A. G. Smith ISBN: 048625478X Make This Medieval Town by Iain Ashman ISBN: 0746033028 [This message has been edited by Levan (edited 03-13-2000).] It's quite a simple model to make - certainly our ten year old managed its construction without difficulty. I would suggest that best results require a lot of care during folding and cutting out. I also think that it would be best to reinforce the model with thicker scrap card. Finished results were fine, particularly once the model was weathered in a similar fashion to that done typically by railway modellers. The model is designed by John Martin and available directly from Traquair House, Innerleithen, Peebleshire EH44 6PW, Scotland UK. Tel. +44 (0)1896 830323 Traquair House is an extended tower-house. It also claims to be the longest continually inhabited in Scotland. ------------------ Gordon.Levan Here are some cheap, and rather splendid cut-out models available from good book retailers (most available on-line too).
Not castles, but could be nice alongside:
LevanLevan Traquair House has a cut-out model available as a souvenir.
LevanPhilip Davis Great list. I'd like to add
Castles to cut out & put together, published by Bellerphon Books, models by Nick Taylor. Has a model of the White Tower and the keep and inner ward of Chateau Gaillard.wurdsmiff Also applaud the list. Incidently, my 11 year old daughter much appreciated the Lego Castles link. Nicola has tried to persuade me to spend all my hard earned wages so that she has enough lego to attempt one of them. Think I'll look for one of your books next time I'm in Smiths as an alternative.
'Give me the groves that lofty brave,
The storms, by Castle Gordon'.
