toughguy12I have a castle drawing that I have to turn in next monday. Does anyone have any good strategies for a castle (defensevly)? Example: What's the best place to put a castle??
I could seriously use some help!!!
Erik SchmidtDefencively the best place to put a castle is on the top of a steep hill away from any other hills. The hill should have steep cliffs everywhere except where the occupants need to enter/exit.
The strongest fortifications then only need to be built around the gate.
This position makes siege engines useless or at least difficult to put into position, prevents sudden attacks on your walls, makes tunnelling/sapping difficult and prevents the enemy from using siege towers.
Also gives the defenders an almost limitless supply of stone to throw down at the enemy(you can use engines to throw stones down at them but they can't throw stones up at you).

If the hill is surrounded by water(such as a large lake or tidal flats) with access by a bridge or causeway, even better.

Erik

toughguy12Thanks Erik!!!
This was a lot of help!! Supposedly though, that your castle IS under siege. What would be some good tactics for getting rid of your enemies?
Example: Murder holes, arrow loops, etc.
