finbar Dear Castles on the web I am doing a project on armour i need some different medival scenarios to design armor for could you give ideas please include details of the person or people iam armouring the place they're at what they're doing what threats are there and what other people are there

Erik Schmidt Hi Finbar,
I'm sorry but I don't understand the question. Armour was not really designed for specific scenarios. It evolved through history to deal with the weapons and tactics of the time. The major influence on how armour looks is the period/time and the wealth of the person wearing it.
Are you just after a suggested scenario, like being set an assingment?

Scenario 1/ An English knight at the Battle of Hastings, 1066. You have a mass of Normans coming to slaughter you using mainly spears and swords.
Scenario 2/ A very poor French levy(peasant) of the late 13th century, fighting against the Burgundians. Your forces are sieging a castle and your task is erecting wickerwork near the walls to protect the crossbowmen. Main threats are arrows and the occational sortie by mounted castle knights.
Scenario 3/ You are an Italian crossbowman fighting in the forward lines for the French at the battle of Crecy, mid 14th century. Threats include showers of English arrows as well as English foot soldiers and mounted knights, not to mention the French knights(yes they killed off the fleeing Italians, or was that at Poitiers?)
Scenario 4/ A very wealthy English knight of 1475. You fight in many parts of France, usually with good success. Main threats are crossbowmen and French knights using lances, swords and hammers.
Scenario 5/ A Swiss halberdier of the late 15th century fighting off armies of mostly mounted knights from the East, part of the Holy Roman Empire, I think. Your main threat is heavy cavalry and small cannon.
Scenario 6/ A well armoured North Italian knight of the middle of the 15th century, involved in protecting his interests from surrounding cities and the Swiss to the North. By now your main threats are halberds or pikes as well as professional soldiers using crossbows, large swords, war hammers(polearms) and rudimentery cannon.
Scenario 7/ A wealthy early 16th century knight at the tournament about to engage in foot combat at the lists. Possible weapons include greatsword, war hammer and similar polearms.
I hope that's what you're after Finbar. I didn't know how many you needed.
I'd love to hear what you come up with for the ones you choose to do. Oh, and I do know the answers.

finbar when refering to knights do you mean mounted or on foot
Erik Schmidt In scenario 7 he is on foot, in scenarios 1,4 and 6 it is up to you, but they usually fought mounted, although the armour would not be different(except for the helm in some circumstances) if they dismounted for a battle as that was usually a last minute decision.
I just realized that for scenario 4 it should say 1375, NOT 1475.
