tricia_14@yahoo.comtk tricia if i knew the answer i would tell ya.. im stumped on the same question.. good luck in finding the answer Erik Schmidt Not all reasons for building a castle were exactly military.
The main function os many castles was as a fortified home of the lord from which he could dominate the 'his' land. It was therefore very much used in a pseudo-military way to dominate the inhabitants of an area in order to extract taxes and service from them.
The castle would mostly fuction in a military way to hold the land from invading or rival lords or kingdoms and protect it's lord and knights(garrison).
Two military reasons for building a csatle are therefore;
1/ To provide a base from which to patrol and hold land from invaders.
2/ Provide a position of safety for the military persons within.
