greengurliehey...
im in the 8th grade...i have a project on castles. i need to know things like why people made castles, how much they were, defensive characteristics, etc. if u can help PLEASE e-mail me and let me know and i'd really appreciate it. thanx!!

toughguy12I don't know if you still need this, but here goes.....
People made castles for defense. I'm not sure on what you mean on "how much they were"... If a castle was under attack, the defenders could:
1.Dump boiling water.
2.Shoot arrows out of windows.
3.Stone attackers climbing up walls.
4.Throw dead things such as dead cows at the invading army so they get sick with disease and die(I'm not sure they actually did this!)
The attackers, on the other hand, would use battering rams and those weird stairs that had a roof on top so you could climb to the top safely. They also could play the waiting game and let the defenders in the castle starve and die since the peasants couldn't go outside the castle and make food for the nobles and for themselves. This is a very common tactic.
