Hope that helps.Matt12345 When did the Medieval age end? Erik Schmidt You're in luck. There is a discussion on that very theme going on right now, here; http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001251.html Merlin That discussion is interesting, but I still don't know why the anglosaxon literature talks about "the dark ages" for the time before 800 AD. From my point of view, the middle ages began with the slow destruction of the western half of the roman empire, sometimes in the late 5th century AD. The beginning of the high middle ages is in most books marked by the coronation of Carolus (Charlemagne) as emperor at christmas 800 AD in Rome. The late middle ages started (in central europe) in the late 13th century, with the 'interregnum' in the german empire. But as it is always with such dates (also with 1453 as the the end of the roman empire of the east and the middle ages in general), they're only good to give you a very basic overview of what realy happend. An era like the middle ages is defined by many elements, some of them appeard early (f.e. titles like king, count or the political function of bishops, all based on the late roman empire in the west), other, like castles and the feudal system, developed over centuries. And it's the same with their disapearance. History is a process of permanent change, only very seldom one single date realy marks a total change of society, politics, economy and culture (and then never universaly for the whole world).
