Sammantha Merlin What exactly do you need?
Early castles on the continent (from about 900 A.D. onwards) were mostly build of wood and simple earthworks. In the 11th century, stone-buildings came more and more in use. If possible, the stone-material was taken from as near to the castle as possible and not seldom was gained by digging the ditch to fortify the site on one or more sides. The walls were mostly build with stones and mortar, altough there were many different techniques in use in different periods an places. Upper floors of stone-houses and -towers were not seldom build in wood or framework. For the roofs, lokal material were used: Thatch, shingels, stone-slabs or, if the owner was wealthy, tiles.
