A simple example for a fief: The king gave a royal possession, two villages and some acres, to a knight - which in return had to be ready to go to war with his men whenever called to. A description of a fief: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fief Another, more readable site: http://library.thinkquest.org/10949/fief/medintro.fief.html Levan [This message has been edited by Levan (edited 03-04-2004).]Panzara I can't find anything on castle feifs. I mean I know all about them but I need a diagram of one for a projecet that's due Monday and we've worked on it all week! If anyone can get me a good diagram of how a feif would work please e-mail me. Merlin I'm not a native english-speaker myself, so please tell me what the hell 'castle feifs' is supposed to be!?! Panzara A feif is the village around the castel. like a town. I needed to know who would be housed closest to the castel and how the village layout would be. I't due today and I'm not sure I can get this web site at school. I just hope my idea works! Panzara Now that I think about you actually spell it Fief. That might make more sense. Now that the project is over I get the joys of roming the site freely. from what I've seen it's a really neat site. Merlin My english/german-dictionnary tells me "fief = Lehen". That would not have to be a village or town, but possessions and/or rights that were given from the owner to someone else to keep them for him. This was how the feudal system was organized. Levan See the following site for some clips from real historic documents about fiefdom:
