I am looking for any information on the Draughton Castle located in England, Northhamptonshire, Leicestershire area. I am tracing my family tree and have stumbled across the information that there is a Draughton Castle, but I cannot find any information on it. Any information would be greatly appreciated. So far I have been able to track back 10 generations from myself. Thank you. |

I can't find a Draughton castle in my database. This may be because of one of the following reasons. 1. My database is incomplete. 2. it's not a medieval castle and therefore not on my database. I only list medieval castles, many later grand houses, with no real fortifications but with gothick crennellations are called castle. 3. It's medieval moated farmhouse later called a castle but not considered such by the authors from which my database is compiled. 4. There is no such place. As an aside medieval castles are rarely named after the family that owned or built them. My guess is that Draughton Castle is a fairly large house built around 1800 in the then fashionable Gothick style. ------------------ And as I rode by Dalton-Hall Beneath the turrets high, A maiden on the castle-wall Was singing merrily: The Outlaw by Sir Walter Scott http://www.castlesontheweb.com/members/philipdavis/index.html | |
