thanx 4 the great advice and pointers, sorry I wasnt more specific! The main areas I'm planing on writing about are close to the last twenty years of the C13 / reign of Edward 1 and preferably on the border lands or in scotland where castles were built largely for defence etc. Thanx again |

Heavy going, but great background data for that period is available in 'Robert Bruce and the Community of the Realm of Scotland' Prof.GWS Barrow, Edinburgh University Press 1988, or for a lighter read Robert the Bruce,King of Scots- Ronald McNair Scott, Canongate Books 1995. These from a Scots perspective obviously. Read through the Schools Project Forum for details of castle development, or if you can get a look at 'The Atlas of Scottish History to 1707' as described in the elsewhere in the Book Nook, you will find maps of the distribution of castles in Scotland and the English side of the border in various periods. There are obviously a large number of books you could read up on this period, but this is a start.------------------ Demeure par la verite Visit my web-site at www.castlesontheweb.com/members/wurdsmiff/castles.htm Gordon. | |
