One of the best books on Irish Castles that I've found. It's easy to read, not especally technical and would make a good introduction to the subject of Irish castles between 1169 (Norman invasion) to the 17th century (stretches my idea of mediaeval, but still!). Castle development is covered in chronological order.

It is a fair book.
Along with 'Castles in Ireland' from Tom McNeill, Ł14 in p.b. ISBN 0-415-16537-0, are two good books to have on Irish fortifications.
