Hello my name is Shelly this is my first time posting here, I am 35 and have had an interest in the medieval period ever since I could remember.I have a question, where can I find information on the evolution of castles between 1100-1200? I am guessing that this was a time of change in the castle's basic design because of the crusades, and that ideas for fortification were brought back to Europe during this time. Personally I'd start with a good book. There are many which cover the developement of the castle during the whole medieval period, including the 12th century. I'd recommend the following;- Sidney Toy - Castles, Their Constructions and History. Tom McNeill - Castles M.W. Thompson - The Rise of the CastleYou can find details of these and other books and links to website on my web site. ------------------ And as I rode by Dalton-Hall Beneath the turrets high, A maiden on the castle-wall Was singing merrily: The Outlaw by Sir Walter Scott http://www.castlesontheweb.com/members/philipdavis/index.html
