Greetings, Well, this is an interesting one. As the legends are told they are not true. Arthur was fighting the Danes, that would mean (according to history) he was Saxon. At that time people didn't have plate armour, so the knights in shining armour thing is false. Another thing is there were no "knights" at that time. They were called Thanes or Earls, and they were sort of were like nobles, there wasn't really a rank of knight. Several other things also don't ring true, but one person in history I think could be considered a "real Arthur". Alfred the Great was the first to unite most of Britain and drive back the Danes who had taken over a good portion of it. He was well educated and loved learning(which was rare at the time). He spent time in Rome where he studied and in other places in Europe. he was considered a hero by the British population and so that could be compared to the legend of King Arthur.
Don't know how this sounds, but thats a bit off the top of my head, Llywelyn |

The legend of king Arthur is just that, a legend. The legend is so full of impossiblities due to being updated regularly through history to suit the times, that as it exists today, he could not have existed. However, there is no reason that it couldn't have been based on a real person and real events, but the historical fact and the events in the legend would have little in common.Erik |
