While suffering from a ailment worse than most common illnesses (writer's block) I find comfort in starting another story which I can eventually intergrate into my present project. (Yes I know--NOT THE HORRIBLE ROBIN HOOD QUESTIONS AGIAN! AHHH!) But your favorite author here on Castle Quest would like to here about an interesting fact about an English or European castle (even chinese if there are any) eh...help?

Why not just surf through some of the links at the foot of the page, Castle Collections would be a good place to start...after all interest is a personal thing, I could link you to thousands of pages which I find of interest, but would you?

I like medieval, premedieval, roman, ancient and anythign that is not considered modern. I'm in the mood for perhaps a more eastern castle at the moment...if anybody is still around and knows about Eastern Palaces...

By 'Eastern', do you mean middle east, eastern Europe or Asian?
I've visited a number of castles in Turkey, Jordan and Israel, most, but not all, were crusader. I've also travelled around looking at the Moorish architecture in Spain including castles and palaces.
If that's what you're after, what would you like to know about them?

You have ther right idea--Middle Eastern is interesting. Just maybe some general info on one of them--what it was used for, is it haunted, etc.

Radella, the sort of general info you are after can be found on the web or in books and since I don't have that sort of info at hand for the Middle Eastern castles you'll just have to find it yourself.
Most of the castles, particularly in Jordan and Turkey, have little info available for them. The best one to look up may be;
Nimrod castle in the Golan Heights, Israel. It is very large and has an impressive history of arab building and occupation. It's a great castle to visit, but unfortunately the main stronghold/palace is no longer standing. There seems to be quite a bit of info on it.

If you're looking for haunted castles, try this site; http://www.haunted-castles-and-hotels.com/

Keep prodding if you need more inspiration.

I myself would suggest looking for exotic and unusual castles with an unknown history..... I prefer places like Hunedoara(a.k.a. Huniazi) castle mainly because it has an unusual and dark history. I'm sure you kow at least something about most castles but....maybe an in depth writing aboutone specific castle who's history you're not as aquainted with.

Radella;
as everyone says, it is difficult to find out the more 'romantic' (!) details of sites. And most of the books dealing with those subjects are older ones. I have in my library at least two books like that'

Castles and their Heroes
Mrs. Alexander .. from the 1930's

Romantic Castles & Palaces
described by great writers. from 1911.

The first is U.K. sites only. But the second covers sites from my own Conway, through to Futtehpore-Siikri (!)
And such is the information, fascinating though it is, would take forever and a day to type out.
You just gotta haunt (pardon the pun) those bookshops and library sales.

All times are PT (US)
