I recently found a reference to Castle Hirschingen. The year was 1700 and the place was Germany.

Can anyone tell me more about the specific location/history of this castle?

I have found out the location: Hirsingue in the Alsace in France (around 1700 this was part of Germany). Hirschingen is also spelled as Hirsingen.

The information on http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GEN-DE/2001-12/1008278230 that the german name of hirsingue is Hirtzbach is wrong, because that is the neighbouring village of Hirsingue (as you can see on http://www.cg68.fr/canton.asp?cheflieu=Hirsingue ).

The reference you found is probably the same as the one I found at
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GEN-DE/2002-03/1015451866


But on the moment I couldn't find anything about a castle in Hirsingue.

Found two other references to a Castle Hirschingen.
Both on genealogy related pages. The second one stating the same assumption ipflo gave. http://home.adelphia.net/~deitrick/family.html http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/roots-l/messages/96sep/9815
Also found a mention of a Castle of Montjoie in Hirsingue. http://hirtzbach.free.fr/histoire/revolution.htm
Couldn't find anything else.
