I am the lucky owner of a nice castle in Burgundy (France) called Faulin. My parents have been working hard for its conservation and now its my turn.
The chateau de Faulin has a nice history (XIIth - XVth century) but has a more usual recent history : During the 20', the chateau de Faulin was owned by two successive families Mc Mahon and de Vogüe (very well known in France for their fortune). The problem is that they have sold the ceiling of the 2nd floor reception room. It has been suggested that this ceiling has been sold in the US. In a goal of conservation, I am looking for informations in order to reproduce it.
Could anybody help me to find how to get further in my research ?

These may be pretty obvious avenues that have been exhausted already, but I'll throw them up anyway.

1/ Find out who sold it and see if they have records of who it was sold to. Go from there.

2/ Find out when it was made/installed, and if possible, by whom. Then go to surrounding castles to see if you can find a match.

The previous owners should be able to help you out. What about photographs of it?

To copy it from a drawing or photo, go to look at intact examples from a similar date (and style) to find out how they were assembled and use the same methods to recreate an exact copy for your castle.

Is it plaster or wooden panels, or maybe you don't know?

Erik
