Michael Critons new novel Timeline is an excellenty research story of a group of archeologists, historians, and medeival architects sent back in time to the Dordogne Vally in France during the Hundred Years War.The level of detail is incredible. The architectural descriptions, the atmosphere and the relations of the people of the time are wonderfully recreated in this new master work. I predict a record breaking movie from this one. As a rule I am not a fan of sci fi, or historical novelists. The latter because they tend to be factually inaccurate. However I may just read this one if available at the local library. If you like this sort of thing, see my comments on Nigel Tranter, one exception to my statement above. I would recommend 'The Bruce Trilogy' and 'The Wallace' as his best. There is a little unavoidable overlap between the two, with an interesting comparison in the accent of this part of the story as he has to adapt the bias to reflect on the hero of each. ------------------ 'Give me the groves that lofty brave, The storms, by Castle Gordon'.
