Castellarium Anglicanum is an excellent two volume book which attempts to list the medieval castles of England and Wales. The details of the book are on my web site at http://www.castlesontheweb.com/members/philipdavis/Books/CADJCK.html . I don't believe that it is in print. I had access to a copy in the reserve collection of the excellent Birmingham City Library (in the UK).
This was never a cheap book and was really aimed at an academic market so it is unlikely to be in the sort of private book collection that might come up for second hand sale ( ie what copies there are are likely to be in big libraries and are likely to stay there.).However, there is always the odd chance so perhaps someone has seen a copy for sale.
