The answers to your questions are in the forums where you have posted and a few more that you haven't asked. To start you set topics at each forum to all and read through them. Then if you still havn't found what it is you need some one here can help you. ------------------ Megan and Ralph CASTLE DUNCAN And in all your comings and goings, May you ever have a kindly greeting from them you meet along the road. an Old Gailic Prayer

Hi Aurian, I gather it's a work of fiction, right? In that case it may have specific setting. If that's the case, narrow your questions to castles of a specific time and place and even type of castle. Is it set in Britain? If so you should be able to get massive numbers of books on the subject and even visit some castles yourself. Libraries may even be able to get excavation plans or try university history/archaeology departments. What about local history or reenactment clubs? Just making suggestions, I don't know what you've tried yet. Erik |

If you want plans, lots of plans, try this site; http://www.burgenwelt.de/ It's in German, so you'll need at least a dictionary to decipher the labels. Erik |

In order to write a good book you must first be familiar with your subject matter. This means research, and a lot of it. You will have to read a great deal about castles and medieval times in order to gain the background knowledge which will give your story/book credibility. It would help if you were a little more specific with your questions,ie which country you are interested in and in what time, size of the castle, wealth and standing of it's lord..... Medieval describes many centuries. The wording of your question, and a feeling of being desparate at such an early stage displays your lack of research to date. Follow Duncan's advice and read some of the old mails. Research takes a lot of time, as does writing the book (years maybe) - there are no short cuts. You asked in an earlier mail about format, no one can answer that unless we know whether the book is factual or fiction, and by being very familiar with the text. You must do your research yourself and read all the material which you require to become familiar with your setting. Try the following links as a starting point. http://www.castles-of-britain.com/index.htm http://www.castlesontheweb.com/quest/Forum9/HTML/000057.html http://www.castlesontheweb.com/members/philipdavis/index.html http://www.castlewales.com/home.html http://www.castlewales.com/life.html http://www.millersv.edu/~english/homepage/duncan/medfem/domestic.html There are another 900 or so links from the headings at the foot of the page. ------------------ Demeure par la verite Visit my web-site at www.castlesontheweb.com/members/wurdsmiff/castles.htm
