VANISHING ENGLAND
by P.H. Ditchfield and Fred Roe
isbn 1-85891-048 x
Bracken Books London

This book first published in 1910 describes an England that even then was fast disappearing. It covers Architecture, Castles,
Village Cottages,Traditional country Fairs, games, Customs and much more information on a now almost completely vanished cultural heritage.
It's written so that the text is not dry or boreing and is a pleasure to read.

1066 And All That
"A comic satire upon textbook history squeezing in 'all the history you can remember' from the dashing Queen Woadicea to the Magna Charter, from the six burglars of Calais to the disillusion of the
monasteries and to the Boston Tea-Party. Also covers the Peace to end all Peace. This light-hearted look at England and history
provides a colourful commentary for all those with a curiosity for the past."
A knowledge of history is not required to enjoy reading this book.

CASTLES
by Charles Oman
published in London 1926 by
The Great Western Railway

A well reserched book and writen in a style that makes reading it a pleasure. Most if not all the 105 illustrations and drawings are unique in many ways.
The Introduction is worth a book unto itself.

THE TECHNIQUES OF THE SWORDSMITH
By Frederick Wilkinson
Published in Great Britain
in 1967

A well detailed and researched book covering a vast array of blades, Military to modern, and the years of their use.
A book that will not apeal to many, but as a third generation sword and blade maker i have a vested interest in such and added this one to my reference library many years ago.
It's worth looking at if your interested in swords of any kind.

I've got the book "Castles" by Charles Oman - it's an interesting old tome, complete with removable map showing the position of all the castles mentioned. Much enjoyed and re-read.
