I recently bought the following book:
'Castles' by Charles Oman, printed in 1926 by Kelly & Kelly Ltd, London for The Great Western Railway. It contains 105 photographs, 67 drawings, 5 plans, 2 coloured plates and 2 maps.
I haven't read it yet but does anyone know this book? If so, what's your opinion about it?
It has cost me 20 Euro here in Holland and I'm curious if I have done a good deal. It's a first impression, with original dust jacket and including a pocket map.

I have a copy of this book - with the map inside the back pocket, but minus the dust jacket.

I thinks it's a really good book, and at 20 Euros, seems to be very reasonable. I bought mine many years ago - at £12.50, which is about 19 Euros at today's rate of exchange.

KEEP IT.

I have a 1978 American facsilime reprint of this book - no pocket map in my copy!. I imagine I paid something similar for this reprint some years ago.
As a source of information on castles it is a product of its age I suppose, but still an useful work. The most interesting feature for me are the pre 'English Heritage' period photographs showing castles covered in ivy, trees etc.
