this was one of my favorite fortified cities in the Lord of the Rings even before I saw the film I loved the description of a dead city that used to be the sister of minas tirith. Way back when isildur built them they were Minas Ithil (tower of the moon)Minas Arnor (tower of the sun)and in between was osgiliath and the dome of stars.
anybody who is interested in the history of middle earth you've got to read the silmarillion. love the way they didi it in the movie though
