As castles cover a great period, and have very many styles.
Have you decided on a style, era, or country as yet ?
I of course love Welsh, where I live, (then those other U.K. countries, forget their names now ... cough!) castles.
Then, as most people who visit the site know by now, Italian castlles come next.

Hi Robin

Keep on dreaming - I did, and living in a castle has become a reality.

Actually, it's not as hard as one might think - in many parts of the world, and particularly some of the more remote locations it's remarkably affordable. My castle on the west coast of Scotland was similarly priced to my former flat in Glasgow (and certainly much lower priced than homes with similar floor area in London). Prices in many parts of the Highlands are much lower still.

Err.. not normally mentioned, but 40ish too - the castle however is a rather more stately 600 - 700 years old, so we're whippersnappers in comparison! Just ponder some of the folks who might have been around in some of its earlier days eh?

I built my first castle, not counting the sand castles, in two vacant city lots next door to where i lived when 11 years old.
Gathering whatever wood i could scrounge to build the 'timber walls' of the bailey it and the motte took over a year for us kids to build.
I didn't have another opportunity for castle related construction until a few years ago when i took early retirement.
I was sketching one day, when my wife asked me to expand the image so she could see more of the main building. That led me to taking a long look at my child hood dream and now I'm in the construction phase of building a true castle.
Some times with a lot of hard work, Dreams do come true!!

All times are PT (US)
