I have a couple of questions, I hope someone can help me out. I have been trying to find some pewter miniature castles and have not been able to find any on line. I have tried many different links with no luck. At one time, I was able to go to 'Impressions' out of Scotland, but now I can't seem to get to that page either. My computer simply says, 'Page cannot be found.' Does anyone know where I might be able to find something like this? Preferably, miniatures of UK castles.

Also, I have been trying to find some nice pictures, either framed or not, of castles and have not had any luck with that either. I have found a nice picture of Eilean Donan, but I want some others besides just that one.

My last question is about tours. Does anyone have any suggestions about Welsh castle tours? I haven't seemed to have any luck with finding a particular tour in Wales that just specializes in castle tours. I talked with my Mom about this, since she is from England and I might get some insight, but she said that the Welsh are probably not really interested in taking tourists around their castles. Is this true? I hope not! They have such beautiful castles!

I have been on the computer trying to find anything to find info on these and have had none, or very vague information about these questions.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

Well.
as I live in north Wales and love pewter perhaps I can answer a little of your questions.
With castles in pewter, I think it is a matter of pot-luck. I to have looked on the web, and they all seem to be fairy-tale castles. Not real castles.
I do have a couple of those bought as gifts from friends in the States.
Ones sold by various castle gift shops do not seem to be pewter, though they look like it.
My wife and I are off to Ireland a little later in the year, and have found several places that make & sell pewter. My fingers and toes are crossed that I may find something. Can let you know if you wish ?
On Welsh castles ... of course we love to show our castles off. I've done that over nearly thirty years with folk that drop in to our cottage. And their are many more like me out there. As to castle visits. In this country we tend to go abroad on organised special tours. Ours, as mentioned, is a three day conference in western Ireland.
There are of course small tours over here. But nearly all of them tend to be run by local authorities. So getting to hear of them is more of a chance thing.
You may have gathered (if you have read any back postes?) that my wife & I love Italy. We had the same problem as yourself. Hey ! Now we do our own thing and have some great adventures. But ... I do plan what I want to see as part of a holiday. And get all the information from friends & sites like this. In general people are very good on passing on advice on what to see. Sometimes, too much !
If we can help from this end ?

Ops !
Just add this one ...re; pictures.
What kind of pic's are you after ?
Lesser or greater sites, and what size ?

Thank you for your reply. I think even if the castles are not 'real' pewter, I would still be happy to have some miniatures. But as you said, all that I have come across are fairy tale castles with crystal and amethyst or something like that on them. I want the replica of the actual castle, not a something 'made up.' I have tried to put every key word I could think of for something to come up. Impressions from Scotland had some real nice castle miniatures, but I cannot get to the page anymore. I wonder if the page is down for construction?

As far as Welsh castle tours, I was looking for an organized tour, since we would not be familiar with the area. My husband and I will be going to Germany in early June and it's a tour that 'everything is covered' except airfare. It may be a bit more expensive, but we don't have to worry about anything, especially since this will be our first castle tour.

As I was doing a bit of research on Welsh castles, it seems that many are located in and about Pembrokeshire. I think there was about seven. I would be very interested in this. Coming from Pennsylvania and flying with the time change, I think it would be easier to stay in one general area for hotel and each day go to a different castle if we were to take a week or so vacation.

Anyway, I would be very thankful if you hear of any tours, even if it is another area of Wales, or Scotland, or Ireland for that matter. And if you find any pewter castles, please let me know. If we plan a Wales trip, it would not be this year since we are going to Germany as our vacation getaway this year--so no hurry--but I still like to investigate websites, and it's fun too!

Pictures--well, not too large, maybe 15 x 15 or around there. Eilean Donan is very popular I see. But, I was also thinking of Bodiam, Stirling, Edinburgh, Warwick. Castles that are popular and still in 'good shape.' I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks again.

A terrible thing to suggest, but...

There are plenty of pottery models/replicas of real castles. You could always make a mould from one of these then cast your own pewter model. It shouldn't be difficult for you to get the materials together needed to do this - it's all well within the level of skills most handy people could manage within their own garage or kitchen (not expensive either). For the sake of artistic integrity, you could at least modify the wax impression before casting the model.

To keep things above-board you should request permission from the producer of the original model before proceeding - obviously pointing out that the pewter version is for your personal collection - not for commercial reproduction.

Hi again,
if you are interested in sites all over the U.K. .... or just the odd region or two. Go to my posting in the 'Book Nook', the Mike Salter web-site has mini castle books at very good prices. And as they are small books, postage would not be a stinker.
Pembrokeshire is very nice, though not as nice as North Wales ... cough !
Always welcome for a cuppa at 'Rose Cottage'.

All times are PT (US)
