Hi, my name is Jonathan. I'm 20 years old and a soon-to-be-graduating senior in college. Lately, while worrying myself to death over what I could after I graduate (and before graduate school), it hit me. Nothing could be better than to intern or work at a castle. I was thinking specifically of a castle in Japan (considering I speak alright Japanese) or a German-speaking country (considering I speak "survival German"), possibly as an English-speaking guide, or even a janitor or something like that. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've scoured the internet and haven't had much luck. Thanks for any help, Jonathan. ------------------

Well Jonathan, a question that has been asked before, and I'm afraid the answer is, pot luck. You would have to find the heritage site for the country (countries), and contact them. Here in the U.K. you could find the sites for English Heritage, CADW (Wales), National Trust, Hertitage Scotland etc. We tend to get the odd job in the paper. Last week we had one for Chirk Castle here in Nth. Wales (National Trust), for all kind of jobs. Very tempted myself to go along and see what was happening. Peter |

Hi! Just had to register here as it looks fascinating! As for working at castles I may be biased but I think you can't beat good ol' UK for the best ones! Try www.nationaltrust.org.uk for jobs.... plenty around at the start of each summer season. Anything from membership recruiter (that's what I do) to guide, to steward, conservation assistant, etc. Depends what kind of place you want to work. English Heritage tend not to advertise on their own website but jobs with them can be found in newspapers and on pages like totaljobs.comUm, hope that helps... good luck! | |
