That's a very difficult question as noone knows any exact numbers. If you are asking for most castles per km2, then I'd say Switzerland. I guess that this brings us back to the true definition of what a "castle" is. My best guess would be Wales as having the most true castles per square mile or Km2. The castles were the main bases of operations for the most powerful people in Europe. They showed off wealth, were used for defense and secrecy, and kept the local populence under control. They were also very cold, drafty, and unpleasant. But they look nice. As for which country has the most castles, I'd put my money on France or Germany, definatly. But remember, some castles are actually more recent than the Middle Ages.
