A new web site is soon to be launched under the auspices of the National Trust for Scotland. The site will put on line for the first time the contents of both the Old and New Statistcal Accounts of Scotland. The project is being overseen by Prof TC Smout, Historiographer Royal for Scotland. Having just seen a brief news article on the above, I cannot furnish further details of it at the moment, though if anyone else can help I'd be grateful. These original documents (1791-9 and 1845)were descriptions of each of the parishes of Scotland written by the resident minister, and gave details of the parish, including sites of antiquity. They are a valuable source of data and history on many lost fortified houses, towers, castles and mottes (amongst other things). This is an exciting development for all interested in Scottish History, since the data will be easily accessible from home. ------------------ Demeure par la verite Visit my web-site at www.castlesontheweb.com/members/wurdsmiff/castles.htm Gordon.
