My fiance and I are hoping to get married in Scotland. The ideal place would be a castle or house that accomodates for a small party (approx.6 people). We have found one in Cumbria, but it is our dream to get wed in Scotland. Can anybody help us? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the Shieldhill one. Looks promising. We are hoping to get married in August 2002

I asked the date because as your party is small, I might have been able to make Castle Levan available - however, for several reasons, I don't think I can guarantee availability in August - oh well.

Here are a few other venues I would suggest you consider - all are within easy reach of central Scotland and Glasgow/Edinburgh airports:

Ballencrieff Castle +44 (0)1875 870784
Culcreuch Castle +44 (0)1360 860556
Balgonie Castle +44 (0)1592 750119
Fernie Castle +44 (0)1337 810381
Borthwick Castle +44 (0)1875 820514

Pretty sure most of these have websites - a wee search with their names in inverted commas (quotes "") should unearth what you need!

There are plenty of others, but these I know.

For a small venue, Culcreuch was one of my favourites - it has one room with genuine 16th century hand painted Chinese wall paper. Food at Fernie is excellent. The others are rather more expensive. These are all relatively small venues. Balgonie has its own chapel so conducting services is no problem.

Other possibilities, not castles, might include:
East Haugh House (a baronial lodge near Pitlochery - marvelous food, characterfully furnished, some bedrooms with "real" fires) +44 (0)1796 473121
Crinan Hotel, Crinan (stunning outlook and the stunning seafood) +44 (0)1546 830261

All the best with your wedding preparations.
