I am looking for information about a castle/mansion in the San Franscico area that was built by a lady who was a spiritualist. I know at one point it was 7 stories high and lost 3 stories in the earthquake of 1906. There are zillions of doors that lead nowhere and things were done in 13's. Who was the lady who built it and what is of the place now? Is it open for tourists? Any info would be grateful. Thanks.

I think you're looking for the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose... it's architecturally very cool but a bit of a tourist trap now. "Sarah Winchester, the eccentric heiress to the Winchester Arms fortune, built this Victorian mansion with the intent of baffling the evil spirits that haunted her. Construction lasted throughout her lifetime, only ceasing with her death. The mansion has 160 rooms, 2000 doors, 13 bathrooms, 10,000 windows, 47 fireplaces, blind closets, secret passageways and 40 staircases." from http://www.caohwy.com/w/wincmyho.htm
