hi,

it should be somewhere near Rome.

I have found out that it is today a presidential residence. But unfortunately the presidential website does not tell me much about its history. So hopefully you can find some more info.

I think its history is very fascinating, from a roman villa to a medieval castle to a manor. Also from the pictures it looks a big complex grown throughout the centuries, which also sparks my interest.

thx in advance

I did find a batch of sites, one advertising (I think) a book on its history.
Will have another look.
I did find the site you mentioned.

Not much history - but a link none the less! Is this the book you were talking about Peter?

Yep, that's the one.
Had a few more links, but can't access them again. I do most of my Italian searches through the web-site Arianna, or Virgilo. Gives you much more than a U.K. or American one.
The place you are after Ipflo is near Ostia Antica, near the coast. It you used to be the coastal port serving Rome. But silting of the Tiber made it defunct. Anita and I visited the old city about seven years ago.
Fascinating place, with a castle near by. Much of Pisa (and other places) was built from the ruins of Ostia.
