I am looking for ideas or plans for constructing a scaled down replica of a castle such as Harlech in Wales, or Bodiam in england. I would like it to be say half -two third of the real one, but it must look exactly like to original, (ie: no cinder block walls, electric lights simulating torches, etc. This castle would form the centre piece or hub of a medieval concept live-in theme park where visitors could come and assume a character and virtually live in a medieval world until they wanted to return to the 21st century. Any concept drawings or ideas will be most helpfull, and gladly accepted.

You might have a look through this topic for a better understanding of what is a castle and what isn't. Also you could look through some of the back posts in this forum for further ideas on building. http://www.castlesontheweb.com/quest/Forum12/HTML/000134.html

Gee duncan, I always thought both Harlech and Bodiam were castles. They look a lot like the ones in various Castle books, you know with lots of towers crenellations, and gosh, one even has a moat! I was hoping this site would at least be able to converse on my level. I'm pretty familliar with castles and medieval life, having done extensive research on both and having visited several sites in great britain often spending weeks during the off season both studying and staying in them. I also teach medieval sword, specializing in the broadsword. I'll make you a deal if I decide to keep this site on my favorite, you don't treat me like an idiot, and I will do like wise.

Both buildings you mention are indeed true castles where as what you propose is not and can not be considered as a castle. I was trying to bring you, shall we say, into a more knowlegable position of what is an excepted criterion of castles as i felt it would make it easier to converse. As moderaters we have certain responsibilitys to guild and facilitate those that visit this site as well as to keep the content at a respectable level. BUT, we are under NO obligation to with hold our own feelings or thoughts in any of these matters.
As to your keeping this site as one of your favorites. We here at Castle Quest make no monetary recompense for member or visiter participation, so what you do with your PC is your buisness.

Duncan, waht is a Castle if not the hub of a communtiy, a place to conduct the business of it's lord, and to maintain dominion over it's subjects. I think this pretty much sums up what a combination admin, aaccomodation, and entertainment facility would provide also. What we're planning, is as stated incorporating the replica of Bodiam into a larger theme. The Castle, and it is one. Will I'm sure become a focal point of this concept, and if you have on constructive information on the atual building, then i wil stick to my current plans and build to the actual only on a slightly smaller scale, using the same techniques although modern equipment to do it. As to your attitude towards one being or not being a member of your site, I am dissapointed you value members so little that you choose to expend little effort in addressing their concerns. You might recall that you opinions were unsolicited and of little help in addressing my enquiry. I don't need to be lectured to by some SCA wannabee about castles or the medieval period a subject I'm far better qualified on than you could ever hope to be. I hope someday you might become a decent person. You might want to look up chivalry and the basic code of knighthood, Which if you are able to understand, might help your personality. As For you site, rest assured I will not recomend nor use it again if you are any example of it's policies or management.
